Baxter highlights 2009 sustainability progress

Baxter has published a new report which outlines its achievements in improving its corporate sustainability during 2009.

The healthcare firm’s 2009 Sustainability Report, entitled Our Priorities for a More Sustainable Future, highlights several key measures of progress during the last year, including a reduction in its water usage and greenhouse gas emissions compared to 2005.

Moreover, the company was also presented with carbon reduction certification from the UK’s Carbon Trust for the sustainable manufacturing of its Flexbumin container system, making it the first and only medical product to receive this accreditation.

Other positive trends underlined in the report include the firm’s new green criteria-driven purchasing policies and its success in reducing absences due to workplace injuries.

Robert Parkinson Jr, Baxter’s chairman and chief executive officer, said: “Each of our sustainability priorities represents an opportunity to engage employees as we collectively contribute to a more sustainable world and benefit our business.”

Earlier this month, the company announced that it has strengthened its European product development infrastructure with the opening of a new research and development facility in Belgium.
