Advanced Surgical Design and Manufacture licences PAD technology

6th July 2010

Advanced Surgical Design and Manufacture (ASDM) has agreed a new licensing deal which will see it gain commercialisation rights to AllVascular’s Peripheral Access Device (PAD).

The agreement will see the medical technology firm control all aspects of bringing to market the device, which helps to stimulate blood flow in the limbs of those affected by peripheral vascular disease, thereby avoiding the need for amputation.

It has proven successful in initial clinical studies in Australia conducted by ASDM, with interest in bring the therapy option to Europe having already been expressed.

ASDM hopes that the PAD technology will prove a potentially useful means of reducing the number of amputations taking place from smoking or diabetes-related gangrene.

Dr Greg Roger, chief executive officer and managing director of ASDM, said: “ASDM’s diligent efforts in developing this device while maintaining a positive operating cashflow business give us the experience and means to make this a great success for ASDM and patients.”

ASDM, which manufactures the Active Total Knee Replacement System, has been operating directly in Europe since agreeing distribution contracts in the UK in May 2010.
