Johnson and Johnson Acuvue lenses recognised for UV protection
Johnson and Johnson has won accreditation for the ultraviolet (UV) absorbing qualities of its 1-Day Acuvue TruEye brand contact lenses.
The American Optometric Association’s (AOA’s) Commission on Ophthalmic Standards has awarded its Seal of Acceptance for Ultraviolet Absorbing Contact Lenses to the consumer product, following an independent evaluation.
This means that the lenses have been proven to conform to International Standards Organization regulations for contact lens UV protection, when used in conjunction with other sun protection products and apparel.
It is the fifth contact lens product in the Acuvue range to be awarded this accreditation.
Sheila Hickson-Curran, director of medical affairs at the Vistakon division of Johnson and Johnson Vision Care, said: “Not all contact lens lines offer UV protection and of those that do, not all provide similar absorption levels.”
Last month, Johnson and Johnson published its financial results for the second quarter of 2010, reporting a year-on-year product sales growth of 0.6 per cent.
