Siemens Healthcare to distribute Calypso tumour tracking system
Siemens Healthcare has agreed a new distribution arrangement which grants the company European selling rights for a tumour tracking system from Calypso Medical Technologies.
The non-exclusive deal will see Siemens offer the Calypso System to its existing and prospective linear accelerator customers for the next three years.
Calypso's system utilises proprietary GPS for the Body technology to track the position of tumours within the body in real time, meaning that radiation therapy can be targeted more accurately and avoid unnecessary damage to healthy tissue.
The deal follows on from the two companies' Master Development Agreement last year, which allows for the production of products integrating the Calypso System with various Siemens radiotherapy technologies.
Holger Schmidt, chief executive officer of oncology care systems for Siemens Healthcare, said: "This distribution agreement with Calypso Medical allows us to offer our customers a comprehensive, state-of-the-art cancer treatment solution."
Earlier this month, Siemens launched its new Emit 2000 sirolimus assay product, which makes it easier to manage sirolimus therapy among transplant patients.
