GE Healthcare to collaborate on pharma manufacturing initiative
GE Healthcare is to work with pharma company iBio and the Fraunhofer USA Center for Molecular Biotechnology on a joint pharmaceutical manufacturing business initiative.
The scheme will see all three organisations utilise their specific technologies and expertise to develop and market manufacturing solutions for biopharmaceuticals and vaccines.
This will see GE Healthcare offer its bioprocessing products and process expertise for integration with iBio's iBioLaunch platform, a plant-based technology which allows for the cost-effective production of vaccines and proteins.
An initial term of three years has been agreed for the collaboration, which is expected to allow the organisations to expand their market presence.
Nigel Darby, vice-president of biotechnologies at GE Healthcare, said: "This is an exciting development in GE Healthcare's strategy to deliver more efficient and cost-effective biopharmaceutical and vaccine manufacturing technologies."
Last month, GE Healthcare agreed an alliance with medical imaging specialist Arineta Ltd, in order to develop new computed tomography-based solutions for cardiac care.
