Athena Medical appoints new managing director

Athena Medical has appointed Nicky Cardoe as its new managing director, taking over the role previously held by Steve Carroll.

Ms Cardoe takes over the top role at the medical communications agency after joining the company in a part-time capacity in August 2010, reports PRWeek.

The healthcare industry veteran has previously held key roles at organisations such as Synergy and the Institute of Cancer Research, as well as acting as managing director for Ogilvy Healthworld PR's New York branch for two years.

She moves into the position vacated by former Fleishman-Hillard staff member Mr Carroll, who was appointed to a new role as a senior consultant for Athena earlier this month.

The changes come as a part of a wider restructuring of the company's management, full details of which are expected to emerge later this year.

In July 2010, Athena Medical client Lifeblood: The Thrombosis Charity won an accolade at the Communique Awards, recognising a recent public health campaign conducted in association with the agency.
