Bausch and Lomb completes Miochol-E purchase
Bausch and Lomb has completed a deal to acquire Miochol-E, a leading injectable miotic pharmaceutical utilised by ophthalmic surgeons.
The eye health specialist has taken control of all assets and intellectual property relating to the product from its former owner Novartis, which will be providing technical assistance to help with the transfer of manufacturing responsibilities.
Miochol-E functions by constricting the pupil in order to stabilise the iris and fluids inside the eye, allowing procedures such as cataract surgery to be carried out more easily.
It has been widely utilised by surgeons for nearly 20 years and is one of only two injectable miotics products available in most territories worldwide.
Dan Wechsler, president for global pharmaceuticals at Bausch and Lomb, said: "Closure of this acquisition is a terrific gain for Bausch and Lomb pharmaceuticals. Miochol-E not only continues to diversify our ophthalmic portfolio, it allows patients to continue to benefit from this well-known product."
