CryoLife introduces PerClot in EU markets
CryoLife has announced the launch of the novel polysaccharide haemostatic agent PerClot in EU territories.
The company has begun French distribution of PerClot – which it has licensed in an agreement with Starch Medical – and plans to gradually introduce the product in other EU countries over the coming months.
PerClot is designed to control bleeding during surgical procedures or following traumatic injuries and has received European CE Mark accreditation, while CryoLife also plans to seek approval to sell the agent in the US.
The company hopes the product will allow it to capitalise on the expansion of Europe's haemostatic market, the value of which is expected to grow to $430 million (270.8 million pounds) from $279 million between 2010 and 2014.
Steven Anderson, CryoLife's president and chief executive officer, said: "Our international and largely unrestricted distribution agreement allows us to address a very broad range of medical specialties in the growing haemostatic agent market."
Earlier this month, the company announced the appointment of David Lang as vice-president for market development, a newly-created role, in order to help develop PerClot marketing strategies.
