Biolitec study shows benefits of Foscan

4th November 2010

Biolitec has published data from a study of its cancer therapy Foscan, highlighting the benefits it can deliver in cases of the disease that had previously been considered untreatable.

The company has conducted a multi-centre analysis of the photodynamic therapy at 13 European centres, involving patients with head and neck cancers who have proven unresponsive to surgery, chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

It was found that 68 percent of those administered with the Biolitec treatment responded well or very well to it, with 40 percent of this group living disease-free after five years.

Moreover, the majority of those involved in the trial experienced improvements to their quality of life after receiving therapy with Foscan.

Biolitec is currently also conducting a parallel cost-efficiency study in association with ZonMw, the Dutch organisation for health research and development, in order to further illustrate the drug's benefits.

Earlier this year, the company published data underlining the safety and efficacy profile of Evolve, its laser treatment system for benign prostate hyperplasia.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800216683-ADNFCR
