Bayer HealthCare study shows benefits of Contour USB

15th November 2010

Bayer HealthCare has published data from a new study demonstrating the potential benefits its Contour USB blood glucose monitoring device can provide in the self-management of diabetes.

The company recently conducted a non-interventional study involving more than 1,000 insulin-treated diabetes sufferers, showing that the device was well-regarded for its usability among both patients and their clinicians.

Professor Dr Ulrich Schwedes, diabetologist and endocrinologist at the Diabetes Center Hamburg, said: "About 97 percent of all participating people with diabetes stated that they plan to continue using the device after the study."

The meter was praised for useful features such as its expansive memory size, allowing for up to 2,000 results to be stored, as well as its direct USB connectivity and accompanying software.

It has also been shown in previous studies to help patients manage their condition more effectively, leading to lower average blood sugar levels.

Earlier this month, Bayer revealed that it will be consolidating a number of its independent health brands under the Bayer HealthCare umbrella, a move which will see the Bayer Schering Pharma name retired.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800236047-ADNFCR
