BD appoints infection prevention expert

BD has announced the appointment of Kathy Warye to the newly-created role of vice-president for infection prevention at the company.

Ms Warye is an industry-renowned authority in the field and will be tasked with strengthening BD's relationships with industry bodies, its work with opinion leaders and its efforts to improve patient outcomes and best practice.

She previously served as chief executive officer of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology for six years, during which the organisation doubled in size.

Ms Warye's achievements were recently recognised by industry publication Modern Healthcare, which ranked her at number six in a list of the top 100 most powerful people in the health sector.

Vince Forlenza, president and chief operating officer at BD, said: "Her expertise and passion will be crucial as BD pursues its commitment to preventing healthcare-associated infections."

Earlier this month, the company published its financial report for 2009-10, reporting 5.5 per cent revenue growth over the full-year period.
