Covidien launches new ventilator platforms

Covidien has announced the launch of a number of new platform options for its Puritan Bennett 840 ventilator system.

The manufacturer has expanded the functionality of its medical device by introducing the new Puritan Bennett 840 Neonatal, Universal and Paediatric-Adult variants of the ventilator system.

These three new offerings provide clinicians with a range of invasive and non-invasive ventilation therapy options for a wide array of patients, from adults to critically-ill newborns.

Covidien noted that the comprehensive features and easy-to-use interface systems provided by the devices will help hospitals to improve the flexibility of their treatment methods.

James Willett, vice-president and general manager for respiratory and monitoring solutions at Covidien, said: "We are committed to answering the needs of patients and clinicians in today's complex healthcare environment through advanced technologies and innovations."

Last month, Covidien announced data from a new clinical trial of its VNUS ClosureFAST catheter, demonstrating its effectiveness in heating and closing diseased veins.
