Biogen Idec announces executive appointments

Biogen Idec has made two changes to its executive leadership with the appointment of Dr Douglas Williams and Steven Holtzman to key roles.

Dr Williams, the former chief executive officer of ZymoGenetics, will take charge of the firm's research efforts as executive vice-president for research and development.

Meanwhile, Infinity Pharmaceuticals founder Mr Holtzman will become Biogen Idec's executive vice-president for corporate development, a role which will give him responsibility for the company's business direction and overall strategy.

Their appointments coincide with the departure of former business development leader Michael Lytton, who will leave Biogen Idec following the completion of several ongoing projects.

Dr George Scangos, chief executive officer of Biogen Idec, said: "I look forward to working with both of them and the rest of the management team to take Biogen Idec to the next level."

Last month, the company agreed a deal with Neurimmune Holding to take over responsibility for three pre-clinical immunotherapy programmes.
