Novo Nordisk wins award for insulin delivery system

Novo Nordisk has been presented with a design accolade for NovoTwist, the needle system featured in its insulin delivery devices.

The easy-to-use needle was presented with a Good Design award based on the noteworthy innovation it offers, as well as its ability to enrich the lives of users.

NovoTwist is used in the FlexPen and Victoza Pen devices and features a bayonet fitting that allows it to be quickly and easily attached and removed from compatible pens.

According to research by Novo Nordisk, a majority of patients find NovoTwist to be quicker and easier to use than standard needles.

Svend Elk, global vice-president for devices at Novo Nordisk, said: "Conventional screw thread needles can be difficult to attach for those with limited manual dexterity.

"We are excited that patients around the world can now benefit from the simplicity and user-friendliness offered by NovoTwist."

Last month, Novo Nordisk unveiled a new liraglutide-based weight loss drug that is said to deliver significant efficacy improvement over current therapy options.
