Covidien launches Puritan Bennett 520 ventilator

Covidien has released its compact new Puritan Bennett 520 ventilator system in Europe, offering a range of flexible benefits to patients and clinicians.

The medical device provides mobile respiratory support for adult and paediatric patients requiring mechanical or transitional ventilator support for portions of the day or night.

Its lightweight battery-powered design is intended to provide maximum freedom of use, while it has also been equipped with data management and tracking functions for patient records.

Other features include its adjustable flow trigger, bacterial filters and automated valve detection.

Dr Roger Mecca, vice-president and medical director for respiratory and monitoring solutions at Covidien, said: "The Puritan Bennett 520 ventilator is a prime example of innovative technology that combines comprehensive respiratory functionality with ease of use and mobility for patients who require ventilation at home."

Earlier this month, Covidien announced the European launch of its new EverFlex Plus Self-Expanding Peripheral Stent System, which is designed for peripheral arterial disease treatment.
