Novo Nordisk highlights key achievements for 2010

Novo Nordisk has published its annual report for 2010, highlighting its success in pursuing financial, clinical and corporate responsibility targets in the last year.

The pharmaceutical company's operating profit for the 12 months came to 18.89 billion kroner (2.14 billion pounds), up by 27 percent year-on-year, while it commanded 51 percent of the total global insulin market.

During the year, the firm has been able to enrol a large number of patients in developing nations for diabetes treatment programmes and has increased its global workforce by four percent to 30,483.

Novo Nordisk has also made significant contributions to worldwide health initiatives during 2010, donating a sum of 69 million kroner to the World Diabetes Foundation and 15 million kroner to the Novo Nordisk Haemophilia Foundation.

Additionally, it has improved its sustainability by cutting water consumption by two percent and its carbon dioxide emissions by 35 percent.

Last month, Novo Nordisk's chief executive officer Lars Rebien Sorensen announced the firm's support of the Workplace Wellness Alliance, an international scheme promoting healthy living among workers.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800391100-ADNFCR
