Lilly appoints new oncology president

Lilly has appointed Sue Mahony as its new senior vice-president and president of its Lilly Oncology division.

Ms Mahony, currently the senior vice-president for human resources and diversity, has been appointed as the successor to John Johnson, who left the company last month.

She has been with Lilly for more than a decade and has an extensive background in sales and marketing roles in the UK and Europe for companies such as Amgen and Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Concurrently, Lilly has chosen Steve Fry to fill Ms Mahony's former position, a promotion that will see him become part of the firm's executive leadership team.

Dr John Lechleiter, the company's chairman, president and chief executive officer, said: "Lilly has one of the largest clinical-stage pipelines of potential cancer medicines in the industry. Sue is a proven leader who will help Lilly make the most of these incredible opportunities."

Last month, Lilly published its financial report for 2010, a year which saw the organisation experience a six percent sales growth.
