UCB highlights milestones for epilepsy drugs Vimpat and Keppra

15th February 2011

UCB has highlighted data that demonstrates the benefits its epilepsy drugs Vimpat and Keppra have delivered for patients since their respective launches.

Coinciding with the first annual European Epilepsy Day, the company has revealed that 100,000 patients have now been treated with Vimpat since its European introduction in September 2008.

The treatment, which helps to mitigate the impact of uncontrolled partial onset seizures, is set to be rolled out in new territories over the coming year and has demonstrated its efficacy in multiple clinical trials.

Data from a new study of the product was published last month, showing that it is able to reduce seizures regardless of the type of concomitant antiepileptic drug used.

Meanwhile, the firm noted that Keppra has also enjoyed success since its debut more than a decade ago, receiving approval as an adjunctive therapy in Japan last year.

Professor Dr Iris Low-Friedrich, the company's chief medical officer, added: "UCB is committed to delivering solutions that go beyond treatment through our successful partnerships with healthcare professionals, our patient support programmes and our innovative research and development strategy."ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800405003-ADNFCR
