UCB wins design award for Cimzia syringe and packaging

2nd March 2011

UCB has been presented with a prestigious industry award for the design and packaging of its prefilled syringe offering for the rheumatoid arthritis drug Cimzia.

The pharmaceutical company and its manufacturing partner OXO have been honoured with the Good Design Award by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.

UCB and OXO created the syringe with the goal of making it easy to use for rheumatoid arthritis patients with limited dexterity, while its packaging was also designed to be simple to open.

Other awards won by the device include the Red Dot Product Design Award and the Medical Design Excellence Award for 2010.

Professor Dr Iris Loew-Friedrich, chief medical officer of UCB, said: "We are proud to be leading the way in developing patient-centric design solutions which makes a positive contribution to the lives of patients."

The company has seen strong demand for Cimzia during the last year and announced in December 2010 that it will be creating a new manufacturing unit in Switzerland in order to increase its manufacturing capabilities.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800437369-ADNFCR
