Alliance Boots and Carrefour agree new partnership

Alliance Boots is to collaborate with global retailer Carrefour on a number of ventures in the health and personal care sectors.

The companies have signed a long-term cooperation agreement that will see them expand their presence in the beauty market, capitalising on Alliance Boots' expertise in the segment and Carrefour's scale and worldwide reach.

Carrefour chief executive officer Lars Olofsson states that this will allow it to make a "quantum leap" in this segment, which is one of the company's key business areas.

Meanwhile, the alliance will also involve the discussion of various potential healthcare partnerships in emerging territories in order to reinforce the relationship between the firms further.

Alex Gourlay, chief executive of the health and beauty division at Alliance Boots, said: "We look forward to creating more opportunities for both organisations."

This comes after Alliance Boots announced last month that it has acquired a further ten percent stake in the Turkish pharmaceutical wholesaler Hedef Alliance, bringing its total share to 70 percent.
