CareFusion appoints new chief medical officer
CareFusion has selected anaesthesiologist, intensivist and hospitalist Dr Carlos Nunez as its new chief medical officer.
The medical expert joins the healthcare technology firm having previously served as chief physician executive at Picis since 2000, while he has also held key roles at the critical care medicine division at Carolinas Medical Center Northeast in the US.
A leader in medical technology, he brings extensive expertise in the areas of clinical effectiveness, information technology, public policy and international markets to the company.
Kieran Gallahue, chairman and chief executive officer of CareFusion, stated that Dr Nunez's appointment will aid the company's efforts to develop devices that improve the safety and cost of healthcare.
"His global business experience and ability to identify emerging trends in healthcare technology brings a valuable viewpoint to our product development and innovation pipeline," he explained.
This comes in the same week the company announced the launch of the LTV 1100 ventilator, a unit that allows mechanical ventilation to be conducted in the homes of spinal injury or neuromuscular disease patients.
