Eisai and Epizyme to collaborate on new cancer drugs
Eisai will be allying with Epizyme on the development of new cancer treatments based on the epigenetic enzyme EZH2.
The agreement will see Eisai pay Epizyme an upfront fee plus additional milestone payments in exchange for access to its expertise and proprietary product platform.
Both companies will work to discover, develop and commercialise a range of drugs targeting EZH2 for use against lymphoma and other cancers in genetically-defined patient groups.
This research will build upon the advancements made in the field of genetics as it pertains to cancer in recent years and is designed to yield new compounds for use in personalised care.
A statement from the company said: "Through this new partnership, Eisai seeks to make further contributions to addressing the diversified needs of and increasing the benefits provided to cancer patients and their families as well as healthcare professionals."
Earlier this month, Eisai published positive phase III clinical trial data for Halaven, its treatment for late-stage metastatic breast cancer.
