Medtronic trial data shows benefits of Resolute stent
Medtronic has published data from a pair of clinical trials that demonstrates the benefits of its Resolute drug-eluting stent.
The medical device was evaluated as a means of treating coronary artery disease as part of the ongoing Resolute clinical study programme, which is set to involve more than 5,000 patients worldwide once complete.
In the first of these trials, Resolute US, the stent was shown to provide reductions in target lesion failure, clinically driven target lesion revascularisation and definite or probable stent thrombosis after one year.
Meanwhile, in the second Resolute All Comers study, Medtronic's device was able to deliver non-inferior performance to an alternative stent, Xience V, after a two-year follow-up.
Dr Martin Leon, a principal investigator on Resolute US, said: "Based on the growing body of clinical evidence on the device, the Resolute drug-eluting stent has distinguished itself as a viable choice for a wide variety of patients."
Last month, Medtronic announced the launch of Activa SC, a new neurostimulator for deep brain stimulation therapy, across Europe and the US.
