CareFusion acquires pharmaceutical waste management technology

12th April 2011

CareFusion has announced the acquisition of new technology for use in the sorting and management of pharmaceutical waste generated by hospitals.

The firm has expanded its Pyxis medication management portfolio with the Pyxis EcoStation system, a hardware and software-based solution that allows waste to be identified, classified and segregated automatically.

It has been created using technology from the recently-purchased company Vestara, a specialist in this field, and is also capable of generating records for use in tracking and regulatory affairs.

This new system will help healthcare facilities tackle the issue of hazardous pharmaceutical waste causing an environmental problem for local areas.

Tom Leonard, president of dispensing technologies at the manufacturer, said: "CareFusion can now help in a way that protects [hospital] employees, the environment and their bottom line."

Last week, CareFusion announced that chief operating officer Dwight Winstead is to leave the company at the end of June 2011, having been with the company since its creation.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800496965-ADNFCR
