Abbott receives CE Mark for new glucose monitoring system
Abbott has been granted CE Mark approval for a new blood glucose monitoring device that is set to go on sale in Europe from this month.
The FreeStyle InsuLinx Blood Glucose Monitoring System is the first Abbott device of its kind to feature a mealtime insulin calculator for working out suggested insulin doses and also includes a number of other user-friendly attributes.
These include a touchscreen interface, extensive personalisation options and USB connectivity so that treatment progress reports can easily be generated using the accompanying FreeStyle Auto-Assist software.
It is compatible with Abbott's FreeStyle Lite blood glucose test strips and is intended to make diabetes self-care a less arduous process for those living with the disease.
Heather Mason, senior vice-president for Abbott Diabetes Care, said: "It has been designed to translate glucose results into helpful information that can enable patients to more effectively manage their diabetes."
Last month, the company published its financial results for the quarter, highlighting a 17.4 percent year-on-year growth in global sales.
