Almirall supports EMSP awareness initiatives for MS

Almirall has provided support to the European Multiple Sclerosis Platform (EMSP) for a number of initiatives aimed at improving awareness and understanding of multiple sclerosis (MS).

The pharmaceutical company has helped to create a website, LifeAndMS.com, which is accessible from the EMSP homepage and offers guidance to patients and carers on dealing with MS symptoms.

Meanwhile, the organisations are working together to create a new patient information leaflet, authored by Barcelona-based expert Dr Jaume Sastre Garriga, which is to be made available in all European languages.

Support was also recently provided by Almirall in the organisation of the EMSP annual spring conference, which was held last month and involved discussions of new therapies, assistive devices and technologies.

John Golding, the EMSP's president, said: "The research and development of new treatments by the pharmaceutical industry is key to the future of MS patients. It is therefore important for the EMSP … to partner with all stakeholders in this fight."

Last month, Almirall expressed confidence that it is on track to meet its financial targets for 2011 based on its performance in the first quarter.
