Boehringer Ingelheim study shows Twynsta diabetes benefits
Boehringer Ingelheim has reported data from a new clinical study that shows the benefits of Twynsta among hypertensive patients with diabetes.
The telmisartan/amlodipine combination treatment was trialled in comparison to amlodipine alone as part of the Teamsta Diabetes phase III/IV programme.
It was shown that the Boehringer Ingelheim product can deliver prompt and extremely effective reductions in blood pressure in a patient group that is at high risk of serious cardiovascular events and can therefore be complicated to treat.
Professor Klaus Dugi, corporate senior vice-president for medicine at Boehringer Ingelheim, said: "Twynsta combines the robust evidence base with regard to cardiovascular outcomes of telmisartan and amlodipine."
The drug was recently approved for use as a hypertension treatment by the European Medicines Agency, based on the positive clinical data collated thus far.
Earlier this month, the manufacturer announced that it will be developing new diabetes treatments based on glucagon/GLP-1 dual agonists as part of a collaboration with Zealand Pharma.
