Lilly appoints executive committee member

Lilly has appointed senior vice-president of global quality Dr Fionnuala Walsh as the newest member of its executive committee.

The Irish national will be joining the body in order to help impose high quality standards across its worldwide operations, with the appointment underscoring the firm's commitment to improvement.

A noted leader in the business quality field, she originally joined Lilly as a technical services chemist in 1988 and rose to her current position of senior vice-president of global quality in 2002.

Ms Walsh's appointment to the executive committee will not affect her continuing responsibilities in this role.

"Walsh is a recognised thought leader in the quality industry, often speaking about Lilly's sustainable, integrated quality system and the company's commitment to maintaining a quality culture," a Lilly statement said.

Last week, Lilly announced that it will be hiring new biochemists and biologists as part of a multimillion-dollar investment in the expansion of its biotechnology capabilities.
