ResMed agrees deal to purchase BiancaMed
ResMed has agreed a deal to purchase Irish medical technology company BiancaMed, a University College Dublin spin-out organisation.
The firm was founded in 2003 and specialises in the development of non-contact devices to monitor sleep and breathing, specifically the touch-free SleepMinder system.
It utilises a motion sensor to detect respiration and movement without the need to make physical contact with the body, a technology that has numerous potential applications in other medical and consumer settings.
ResMed has been working with BiancaMed since the company was created and believes that it has significant potential for future growth.
Dr Peter Farrell, ResMed's chairman and chief executive officer, said: "We are committed to innovation in sleep and respiratory medicine and the related comorbidities by commercialising products incorporating novel technologies."
Just over a month ago, the company announced the launch of a new iOS application that allows patients to evaluate the quality of their sleep and gain advice on treatment options.
