GlaxoSmithKline sells EarCalm to Forest Laboratories
GlaxoSmithKline has sold its over-the-counter (OTC) product EarCalm Spray to fellow healthcare company Forest Laboratories.
The firm has transferred ownership of the treatment for superficial infections of the outer ear, with Forest set to work with Ceuta Healthcare to support its pharmacy sales initiatives for the brand, reports Chemist and Druggist.
Forest Laboratories has expressed confidence that the product will see a major increase in sales in the coming months.
This is due to the fact that EarCalm Spray saw a sales uplift of 140 percent during the summer last year, according to a spokesperson.
The divesture of EarCalm Spray comes after GlaxoSmithKline announced plans earlier this year to sell off a number of non-core OTC offerings as it seeks to refine its consumer health focus.
Among the brands listed for sale are the likes of Solpadeine, BC, Lactacyd and Abtei, with the company seeking to focus more on its oral health, wellness/OTC and nutrition categories.
