B Braun acquires patent for new wireless technology
B Braun has secured a patent for new wireless communication technology that will be used to enhance data transfer between medical devices and information management systems.
The company was granted US patent number 7,933,780 earlier this year and has an additional two applications pending, covering technology related to bedside point-of-care applications.
Specifically, the patents pertain to the firm's Outlook Safety Infusion System and Space Infusion Pump System smart pump product lines and are being secured as B Braun seeks to introduce new innovations to make the clinician's job easier.
Gale White, vice president of the infusion systems division for B Braun Medical, said: "The addition of this patent further broadens our existing patent portfolio, which includes barcoding and wireless communication between intravenous pumps and hospital information management systems."
Last month, the company announced the launch of NuTRIflex Omega, a new three-chamber fish oil bag for use in hospitals as a means of helping patients to avoid malnutrition.
