Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons registers 760 graduates

The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) has registered around 760 graduates in the UK this summer, all of whom can now begin practising.

Although the final number of newly qualified professionals has yet to be confirmed, the figure still marks an increase on the 708 registrations made by the RCVS last year.

Some 84 of the graduates came from the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science at the University of Nottingham – the first new facility of its kind to be established in the UK for 50 years. The rest came from institutions such as the universities of Bristol, Cambridge, Glasgow and Liverpool.

RCVS president Jerry Davies told the former students: "You now share responsibility for our profession's future, for the welfare of animals, for the support of those who own and care for animals and for public health."

The news comes just days after the college announced 19 of the 21 overseas-qualified veterinary surgeons who passed their RCVS exam had been admitted to the organisation's register.
