Bayer HealthCare highlights positive new Xarelto data

Bayer HealthCare has highlighted newly published clinical trial data that supports the efficacy of its drug Xarelto in preventing strokes among atrial fibrillation patients.

The New England Journal of Medicine has reported data from the Rocket AF phase III clinical trial, in which the drug was compared to warfarin among patients for whom oral anticoagulation was recommended.

In this study, Xarelto was able to meet its primary endpoint of non-inferiority, with data showing that Bayer HealthCare's drug offered superior efficacy by a number of metrics.

Positive safety data was also reported in terms of overall bleeding rates, with the number of serious adverse effects shown to be lower using Xarelto.

Xarelto is a rivaroxaban-based therapy that has been jointly developed by Bayer HealthCare and Johnson and Johnson for a range of applications.

This new report comes after data from the Japanese study J-Rocket AF demonstrated similarly positive results last month.
