Boehringer Ingelheim agrees licensing deal for ProBioGen’s GlymaxX

Boehringer Ingelheim has agreed a new licensing deal for the GlymaxX technology offering from ProBioGen.

Under the terms of the non-exclusive licensing agreement, Boehringer Ingelheim's contract manufacturing business will be applying the afucosylated protein production technology to enhance antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity in compounds.

Moreover, the companies will also be jointly marketing the technology to their client bases, providing it as a royalty-free offering.

Among the advantages of GlymaxX is its functionality with Boehringer Ingelheim's high expression CHO-based BI-HEX system, as well as its ability to be applied to existing antibody producer cell lines without affecting productivity.

Simon Sturge, corporate senior vice-president for biopharmaceuticals of Boehringer Ingelheim, said: "This is another step to continuously invest in our technology leadership and to provide flexible solutions, addressing our customer's needs."

Earlier this week, the company announced its financial results for the second quarter of 2011, during which it saw a four percent year-on-year sales increase.
