BD to launch new environmentally friendly syringes

BD has announced the launch of a new range of syringes that have been specially designed to offer a strong environmental performance.

The BD Emerald Syringe portfolio includes offerings such as the BD Emerald Conventional Syringe, BD Emerald Saf-T Syringe and BD Emerald Pro Reuse Prevention Syringe, all of which are produced using renewable techniques.

According to the manufacturer, measures have been taken to reduce production materials, while 100 percent renewable electricity will be used in their creation wherever possible.

In addition to these green benefits, the syringes will also offer strong clinical performance, meeting regulatory standards and helping to prevent the spread of infection.

Bill Kozy, executive vice-president for BD, said: "BD recognises that human health and a healthy environment are inseparable. We are committed to responsible environmental stewardship in our business conduct."

Last month, the company announced that Vincent Forlenza is to become its new chief executive officer in October 2011, replacing Edward Ludwig.
