Nycomed hails strong performance in second quarter

18th August 2011

Nycomed has announced its financial results for the second quarter of 2011, during which it was able to achieve year-on-year growth.

The pharmaceutical firm's net turnover figure for the period came to 786.2 million euros (685.6 million pounds), up by 2.4 percent in local currency terms, with double-digit growth recorded in emerging territories.

During the quarter, the company made progress with a number of its collaborative projects, completing the transfer of marketing authorisation approvals in Asia-Pacific for Bonviva to Roche and agreeing a new product development alliance with Orion.

Furthermore, a deal was signed in May 2011 that will see Nycomed acquired by the Japan-based pharmaceutical business Takeda.

The 9.6 billion euro transaction is expected to close in the coming months and will exclude Nycomed's US dermatology business.

Nycomed chief executive officer Hakan Bjorklund said: "Nycomed ends the first half of 2011 in excellent shape and looks forward to an even brighter future."ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800703490-ADNFCR
