Amgen to launch new educational campaign for osteoporosis

26th August 2011

Amgen has announced the launch of a new educational campaign designed to raise awareness of postmenopausal osteoporosis among at-risk women.

The Act 2 Reduce Fractures initiative is being conducted in cooperation with organisations such as the Global Healthy Living Foundation and American Bone Health, with a website having been introduced to educate women on potential risk factors.

Postmenopausal osteoporosis is a common condition among those aged over 50 and displays no visible symptoms until after a fracture occurs, which can have a serious impact on quality of life.

To support the campaign, Amgen has recruited the services of actress Blythe Danner, who was diagnosed with the condition earlier this year.

"I hope by sharing my personal story about having this disease that women like me will speak to their doctors about what they can do to help strengthen their bones," she said.

This comes as the manufacturer prepares to present new clinical data on its osteoporosis treatment Prolia at the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research annual meeting next month.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800711697-ADNFCR
