Novo Nordisk provides free diabetes treatments for India

Novo Nordisk has announced the launch of a new programme in India that is designed to provide underprivileged local children with free diabetes care.

The Changing Diabetes in Children (CDiC) scheme has been introduced in the Asian nation this month, which will support the provision of insulin, blood glucometers and strips for around 2,500 young patients.

It will see the company working alongside local partners and healthcare providers to offer a comprehensive training manual for professionals and diabetes educators, while key opinion leaders will be running 12 CDiC clinics, covering ten Indian states.

The CDiC scheme has now been introduced in a total of eight countries, including Bangladesh, Cameroon, Ethiopia and Uganda, but the Indian initiative is the most comprehensive to date.

Novo Nordisk intends for a sustainable framework of well-functioning diabetes clinics to be in place in the country by 2015.

Last month, the company announced that it will be moving to improve the efficiency of its European operations via the creation of a new corporate centre in Denmark.
