Sanofi reports positive Lyxumia diabetes trial data

Sanofi has published positive new data from a phase III clinical trial of Lyxumia, its developmental therapy for type 2 diabetes.

In the GetGoal-F1 study, the once-daily GLP-1 receptor agonist was compared against placebo for its efficacy in combating the disease among patients who were uncontrolled on metformin.

It was discovered that Lyxumia was able to meet its primary endpoint of improved glycaemic control, proving to be equally effective when administered as a one or two-step regimen.

GetGoal-F1 study is one of nine studies being conducted as part of the GetGoal clinical programme, which is designed to support regulatory submissions for the yet-to-be-approved therapy.

Dr Geremia Bolli of the University of Perugia said results from the trial show that Lyxumia is "effective in both improving glycaemic control and reducing body weight, and the one-step dose increase regimen may be the best option for treatment initiation".

Earlier this month, Sanofi outlined its business plan for growth in the next four years, which will see it investing in innovative therapies to counterbalance the loss of patent protection on its existing products.
