Boehringer Ingelheim and Lilly report positive Trajenta trial results
Boehringer Ingelheim and Lilly have reported positive findings from a 102-week analysis of their new diabetes therapy Trajenta (linagliptin).
The DPP-4 inhibitor therapy has been shown to offer meaningful and durable reductions in blood glucose levels for adults with type 2 diabetes over the two-year period, while also offering a favourable safety profile.
Data from the long-term study confirmed the benefits of linagliptin both when used as a monotherapy and in combination with metformin, pioglitazone or metformin plus sulphonylurea.
It was also shown to be effective across the full spectrum of diabetes patients, from newly diagnosed sufferers through to patients with severe renal impairment.
Professor Anthony Barnett, consultant physician at the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust, said: "One dosage strength for all patients will help make the process of prescribing easier and more straightforward for physicians."
This comes after Trajenta was approved for sale by the European Commission last month, based on positive data from prior clinical trials.
