Bristol-Myers Squibb and Saladax expand Alzheimer’s collaboration

Bristol-Myers Squibb and Saladax Biomedical have expanded their research collaboration on Alzheimer's disease to include a third partner.

Under the terms of the newly revised arrangement, the companies will be joined by Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics in the development of diagnostic assays for the early detection of the neurodegenerative condition.

The creation and regulatory submission of the new products will be a joint effort by all three firms, with Saladax and Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics to handle commercialisation via a separate agreement.

It is thought that the new technology being developed could assist in the diagnosis of Alzheimer's, while improving understanding and treatment of the disease.

Jane Tiller, vice-president for neuroscience and global development lead for Alzheimer's disease at Bristol-Myers Squibb, said: "This expanded collaboration demonstrates Bristol-Myers Squibb's support of the evolution and continued growth of our neuroscience business and our commitment to Alzheimer's disease."

Earlier this month, the company completed its acquisition of Amira Pharmaceuticals, a developer of small molecule drugs for a variety of inflammatory and fibrotic diseases.
