Smith and Nephew launches Truclear SIM Morcellation Simulator
Smith and Nephew has announced the launch of its new simulation system designed for use in the training of gynaecological surgeons performing hysteroscopic morcellation.
The Truclear SIM Morcellation Simulator is a highly realistic, hands-on simulator that provides a virtual recreation of the procedures conducted with Smith and Nephew's Truclear system.
This simulation allows users to be evaluated on various key metrics, such as safety, pathology removal, procedure efficiency and visualisation skills, thus helping to grade performance.
According to Smith and Nephew, this offers advantages over traditional silicone uterine assessment models, which cannot simulate conditions such as fluid management dynamics.
Mira Sahney, general manager for gynaecology at Smith and Nephew, said: "As a leader and innovator in hysteroscopic morcellation, Smith and Nephew is always looking for ways to expand on its expertise and provide world-class training to physicians."
Last month, the company announced its financial results for the second quarter of 2011, a period that saw the firm achieve underlying year-on-year revenue growth of five percent.
