Boehringer Ingelheim launches biosimilar business unit

29th September 2011

Boehringer Ingelheim has announced the launch of a new dedicated biosimilar business unit, in anticipation of trends in the market over the coming years.

The company is to establish a new division that will focus on the development and commercialisation of proprietary biosimilar products, a field that is anticipated to become increasingly important in the pharmaceutical sector.

According to the firm, this will build on the more than three decades worth of experience in pioneering biopharmaceuticals possessed by Boehringer Ingelheim, which has made it one of the leading companies in the field.

Professor Dr Wolfram Carius, member of Boehringer Ingelheim's board of managing directors responsible for operations, noted that it will also help to expand patient access to vital medicines.

"We feel confident that we are able to leverage our capabilities in product development, supply and clinical expertise at Boehringer Ingelheim to offer high-quality biosimilars understanding patients' needs," he added.

Earlier this month, the company was awarded an industry accolade by Frost and Sullivan, acknowledging its strategic leadership in the biopharmaceutical contract manufacturing sector.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800743352-ADNFCR
