Biogen Idec names head of global commercial operations

Biogen Idec has announced the appointment of Tony Kingsley as the new executive vice-president of its global commercial operations management team.

Mr Kingsley is being promoted into the new role on November 7th 2011 having proven his abilities in the role of senior vice-president of US commercial operations since January 2010.

He has been credited with a key role in improving American sales of drugs such as Avonex and Tysabri, with his new position set to see him taking charge of the development and execution of Biogen Idec's global commercial business strategies.

Mr Kingsley will succeed former commercial operations head Dr Francesco Granata, who is leaving the company to pursue other opportunities.

Chief executive officer Dr George Scangos said: "I am confident he is the right person to build on the positive momentum in our global commercial business and prepare the organisation for the potential launch of multiple products."

Last month, the company announced that it will be expanding its partnership with Aegis Analytical, a move that will see the firm employing Discoverant Process Intelligence technology at its Hillerod manufacturing site in Denmark.
