Bayer HealthCare award presented to UK diabetes expert

28th November 2011

Bayer HealthCare has presented an award to an expert from the diabetes insulin pump team at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, honouring a recent research presentation concerning diabetes treatment.

Helen Chenoweth was granted the Bayer Award for best scientific poster abstract for a report, co-authored with Dr Duncan Browne, showing the impact of an abbreviated structured continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) education programme can have on glycaemic control rates.

Conducted in compliance with National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence regulations, the CSII service was trialled among 24 patients and provided guidance on insulin pump therapy, exercise and hypoglycaemia management.

Presenting the award at the European Diabetes Nursing Symposium, Bayer said this shows the vital role nurses can play in facilitating the management of the condition.

Dr Eva Wintergerst, global senior medical communications manager for diabetes care at Bayer HealthCare, said: "We have accurate devices, insulin, and comprehensive knowledge of diabetes self-management. However, a prerequisite is that people with diabetes learn how to correctly and efficiently use all diabetes management tools."

Last month, the company published data from a new study highlighting the effectiveness of its Contour blood glucose monitoring system.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801222841-ADNFCR
