Hologic launches C-View synthesised 2D image reconstruction algorithm

Hologic has announced the launch of a new synthesised 2D image reconstruction algorithm for its C-View imaging software.

The commercial release of the new algorithm in Europe will allow users to eliminate the need for a conventional 2D mammogram as a component of a 3D mammography exam.

Instead, clinicians using the Hologic 2D plus 3D tomosynthesis breast cancer screening system can create a 2D image from a single tomosynthesis scan, without the need for additional two-dimensional exposures.

Dr Stephen Rose, a radiologist from Houston Breast Imaging, has already adopted the new system and praised it as being "very impressive".

"C-View provides the information contained in a conventional 2D mammogram without the need for additional exposures while maintaining the superior clinical performance of Hologic's combo-mode imaging," he said.

The new software is currently being demonstrated at the Radiological Society of North America annual meeting, alongside products such as the Eviva and ATEC biopsy devices and Trident mobile specimen radiolography system.
