Covidien study shows benefits of Endo Stitch suturing device
Covidien has published data from a new clinical study showing the benefits its Endo Stitch automated suturing device can offer to healthcare providers.
The product was recently assessed in a retrospective data analysis showing its impact compared to conventional robotic techniques during total laparoscopic hysterectomy in benign cases.
It found that use of Endo Stitch was associated with lower overall hospitalisation costs and a reduction in operating room time of around 40 minutes.
According to the manufacturer, these results show the advantages of using its product when conducting the difficult process of laparoscopic suturing, which is heavily reliant on automated assistance due to its complexity.
Dean Geraci, director for healthcare economics and reimbursement at Covidien, said: "We are encouraged by these study results and look forward to continued exploration of the clinical and economic impact of enabling laparoscopic technologies."
Last month, the company announced the acquisition of BARRX Medical, a specialist provider of bipolar radiofrequency ablation devices for the treatment of Barrett's oesophagus.
