Agilent to acquire Halo Genomics and BioSystem Development
Agilent Technologies has announced the acquisition of BioSystem Development and Halo Genomics, as it seeks to expand its position in the life science sector.
The two privately-held businesses are being purchased for undisclosed fees as the company seeks to strengthen its growth in the field of life sciences, which is an area of key strategic importance to Agilent.
Halo Genomics is a Swedish-based company that provides innovative technology for the fast-growing next-generation DNA sequencing market, the acquisition of which has now been finalised.
Meanwhile, the purchase of the US-centred BioSystem Development – a provider of automated analytic solutions for the pharmaceutical trade and current Agilent supplier – will be completed before the end of 2011.
Nick Roelofs, president of Agilent's life sciences group, said: "We're getting world-class technology and expertise in two key areas that will help us expand our portfolio and deliver the most complete workflow solutions for our customers."
Last week, the company announced the appointment of Ron Nersesian as executive vice-president and chief operating officer, a move that will further support its growth initiatives.
