Sanofi reports positive Lyxumia trial data

Sanofi has published positive new clinical trial data for Lyxumia, its investigational treatment for diabetes.

The drug was recently evaluated in GetGoal Duo1, a study that combined the lixisenatide treatment with the insulin glargine therapy Lantus among type 2 diabetes patients uncontrolled on oral anti-diabetics.

It was found that the combination therapy was able to deliver significant improvements in blood sugar control and post-prandial glucose levels, thus meeting its primary efficacy endpoint for the trial.

This will help to support Sanofi's application for European approval of the drug, which was filed last month, while a US regulatory submission is also planned before the end of next year.

Pierre Chancel, senior vice-president of Sanofi Diabetes, said: "This is another key milestone in the clinical development program for our new GLP-1 agonist. Achieving glycaemic control and compliance with treatment is a complex challenge."

This comes after Sanofi and Genzyme reported encouraging clinical data last month for Lemtrada, a new therapy for multiple sclerosis.
