Celgene reports encouraging phase III Revlimid data

Celgene has announced positive new phase III trial data for Revlimid, its approved therapy for multiple myeloma.

A planned interim analysis has been published for the MM-015 trial, a randomised double-blind study of continuous Revlimid for newly diagnosed multiple myeloma patients who were ineligible for stem cell transplant therapy.

The data showed that Celgene's drug was able to deliver a statistically significant improvement in progression-free survival rates regardless of age, thus meeting the primary efficacy endpoint of the trial.

Currently, Revlimid is specified for use in combination with dexamethasone for patients with multiple myeloma who have received at least one prior therapy, but it has not been approved as an initial treatment.

The product is available in more than 70 countries, with further regulatory decisions pending in several other nations.

This comes in the same week that Celgene also published positive phase II trial data for pomalidomide, a new therapy for pre-treated relapsed and refractory multiple myeloma.
